Musquodoboit Trailway

This Trailway is a 16.5kms recreational trail between Musquodoboit Harbour and Gibraltar rock. The Trailway was the first section of the Trans-Canada Trail opened close to Metro Halifax. The designated activities for the trail are walking, hiking , biking and cross-country skiing. The trail can be accessed from the Musquodoboit Railway Museum or just below the Meagher's Grant on Highway 357. Pop into the railway Museum for a map & trail ratings! or go to Mta-ns.ca

Atlantic View Trail

This trail is the start of the Trans Canada Trail. It begins on West Lawrencetown Road to Three-Fathom Harbour Road. This 7km trail is for walking and cycling only. This trail is along the coast and major migratory feeding ground for many sea birds, ducks and geese. Please stay on the trail and avoid nesting area along the shore and sand dunes. Wild life such as foxes and muskrats are abundant.

Crowbar Lake Hiking Trail

A 16.5km trail located in the Waverly-Salmon River Long Lake Wilderness Area.  This rugged wilderness trail meanders up through large, glacial white granite boulders scattered amongst the landscape.  Visit beautiful lakes and natural bogs.  The trail head begins approximately 8 km in the Myra Road in Porters Lake.  An ample parking lot and sign will mark the entrance to the trail.

Gibraltar Rock Loop Trail

A bird’s eye view of the Musquodobit River and the surrounding area awaits you at the top of Gibraltar Rock, but you’ll have to work hard to get there. The trail begins by steeply climbing up the side of the granite ridge through mixed forest and large rocks to the top of Gibraltar Rock. Once at the top you are rewarded by the first of two look-offs over the river and valley below.

The backcountry trails offer something for everyone although it is recommended that you have some experience before you try the more difficult trails.  Your reward will be stunning scenery from the many lookoffs, a varied assortment of flora and fauna, and many sightings of birds and small mammals.
